Want to make sure local people are aware of opportunities for 11+ familiarisation.

My Son took part in:

http://www.whsb.essex.sch.uk/444/commun ... r-grammar-

The deadline was the 21st of September but I signed up after that and there were still places available, so give it a try ASAP.

He also went to a couple of familiarisation Saturdays at WHSG but I cannot find the dates for those yet if on offer. He went in February for two consecutive Saturdays.

The schools hold these sessions for girls and boys no matter which gender the school is.

We also used a local tutoring company with max 4 children per class for the past year. They were very reasonable in price and gave one piece of maths and English homework per week. In other words not a hot house!

They also held mock tests which we used.

I also had my son take part in mocks by the tutoring company that sounds like Essex but has a number in the name

Unfortunately one has to sign up for a minimum of three, but I knew from when my DD sat them that they were very rigorous and way harder than the real thing. They are ridiculously priced though!

I have also heard good things about Chalkwell Hall Jr school mocks but my son did not need to sit anymore.

I do not know my sons score yet but he came away from the test smiling and said there were no surprises from his preparation.

Enjoy the journey!

For all postcode SS0, SS1, SS2, SS3, SS4, SS5, SS6, SS7, SS8, SS9 dwellers. There are two courses left:

Saturday 20 January – Humanities
Activities in Philosophy, Volcanoes and World War II will challenge the pupils during these sessions.

Saturday 05 May – Languages
Pupils will be asked to crack the code in Russian to identify the Spy, followed by activities in Spanish and German.

The days are priced at £10 to cover the cost of administration, but there will be no charge for children in receipt of Pupil Premium Funding.

My DS also received a very handy leaflet on types of maths problems and English questions to revise for. For £10 this is the DIY parents dream course.

They have a parents meeting the last hour to guide parents in how to support their children. There were a lot of girls present so don't let the single gender school scare away any DD out there!
