Thank you to all those who have posted scores. Do post waiting list positions etc. when they are released. It really does help everyone to see where the cut-offs are (and also identify any admission mistakes).

Do keep posting scores, especially borderline ones (pm me if you would rather do this anonymously). I will try to update regularly.

Thanks Blitz

Well done to all your D.C. that got a place!

What, if anything, does the change in mean and standard deviation mean for next years intake? My son is taking the 11+ in October, we are in catchment - what kind of marks does he need to be achieving to get a 303 score?

The mean and standard deviation for the papers are individual to each cohort's set of raw scores.

You can work out maths / English combinations which got various standardised scores in a given year by trying them out in the formula using the mean and sd for that year. I know I did work out 'just' 303 somewhere for one set of figures, but can't find my post now. I think it was around 38 for one of the papers but really can't remember.

Or trawl through the Collated Cut off threads until you find a suitable standardised score?

Thank you! It’s more so I know how close/far away he is from getting the required mark. Will obviously aim for much higher than 303

Dear Blitz and everyone,

Just so I understand,,,,
How CEM CCHS cut-offs are hundred something when CCSE cut-offs are three hundred something? What is the highest mark that can be obtained? How many questions do we get from CEM exam? Lots of books are doing Cloze test, shuffled sentences, verbal reasoning in a similar format as comprehension multiple choices, antonym, synonym for English. Is this what is really coming out in CCHS CEM? If so, what ratio of questions were assigned in each section?

Another question on CSSE, when mean figure is 49 and total question points can be obtained up to 60, does this mean everyone on average they achieved 49 points out of 60 mark?

Thank you for explaining in advance!

The CEM papers are not released and change annually, so honestly, no one has a clue. The test is supposed to be tutor-proof so the CEM will change the format, number and types of questions, timings etc as they see fit. It makes it a 'leveller' playing field for all girls. The only people who know what is in the test are the test setters, invigilators and the girls themselves.

The CEM test is standardised with 100 being the mean mark achieved. The range is usually 60 to 140. Most years they say the highest mark achieved is, say, 136.

As for the CSSE, there are 2 one hour papers (English and Maths) both marked out of 60. If you look at the charts of mean marks is says these are percentages as papers used to be marked out of 40 and 50. So 49% equates to 29.5/60.

Each standardised score is multiplied by 1.5 and English and Maths added together, so rather than the mean being 100 it is 300 - just because historically CSSE has had an in-catchment passmark score for the Southend area of 303.

If your child is averaging 70% on past papers they are on track, however, it is all about how they, and their peers, perform on the day.

Best of luck
