These season tickets offer an extra discount off the normal child rate fare (and a very good discount indeed off the cost of the adult fare, which becomes payable as soon as your DC turns 16, for some on the first day of year 11 ). You can also purchase PlusBus add-on tickets from the website, e.g. to use on the bus between Southend Victoria and SHSG.

One of the great things is that the season tickets are just that, they can be used at any time during the validity of the ticket for travel between any of the stations on your route - so, perfect for meeting up with your new schoolfriends at the weekend or in the holidays without the need for mum or dad to get the taxi out.

All you need to do before you book the ticket is make sure that your DC has a valid child photocard (or adult one, if appropriate) which is free from stations, as you will need to enter the number as part of your DC's details. You can 'trial run' your journey without the photocard number, though, to check how much your ticket would be.

(Please be aware that these tickets are only available from website or from the contact phone number given on the site, not from the c2c or normal Greater Anglia websites, or from any railway station).

We loved the Southend grammars, but have put them down as 2nd and 3rd choice, only because of the distance factor (and £300 hike in travel costs)!

These go on sale in August.

DD has decided to move on for 6th form and will either be walking to school (results permitting) or getting the bus - time to invest in a 16-25 railcard for the weekend and holiday trips into Southend, methinks and particularly with university open days coming up . I think we have more than had our money's worth out of this year's Scholars ticket, even allowing for the £20 admin fee for a replacement ticket at the end of the Easter holidays.

ETA - replacement tickets, should you need one, can now be obtained from participating Greater Anglia stations - you need to phone the Scholars Season ticket people and they email the station with the relevant details (in our case, the email seems to have been sent in the first instance to Southend Central station by mistake, which was no good at all, but fortunately it was forwarded on to Southend Vic by the staff there ).

Just updating this (original link didn't work for me when I tried it just now ) and 'bumping' it for the attention of those pondering the transport options for the CSSE schools they are considering putting on their CAF. Eta - or CCHS, which, like KEGS, is an easy walk from Chelmsford station .

Hi all I'm just checking the ticket prices for the c2c chalk well to Southend east looking to get an annual scholars ticket do you no when these go on sale from? Thanks

In previous years, the annual tickets have gone on sale at the beginning of August. DD's last one (16-18, full year 2016/17 Chalkwell to Southend East) was about £210, IIRC, a little more than the under 16 one.

Eta, just checked on the website: for the coming term, under 16 rate is £63.30 (16+, £78.80).
