Brentwood commute to Westcliff grammar schools

Apologies, we’re relatively new to the Essex area, hence the question. Apologies if this question has already been answered, but I couldn’t find the information anywhere. From those parents whose children live in the Brentwood or Shenfield area, just wondering how they manage to commute to the Westcliff grammar schools? Is it not too long a journey? How long is the journey? Is there a regular school bus to and from the Brentwood and Shenfield area? We live in the Shenfield area (daughter in Yr 5), and we were wondering whether we should even consider applying for WHSG, that is, assuming she gets the required marks (a separate challenge on its own). Thanks in advance.

Yes SBC coaches run a school bus service that runs from Shenfield station to the Westcliff schools and SHSB. It leaves about 0720h and returns around 1630h. It's pretty efficient, and lots of children from the Brentwood/Shenfield area use it. The problem is after school clubs, as with using a school bus, one isn't able to join in fully in the after school programs.

From SHSB, Prittlewell is within a 15 minute walk and on a direct line to Shenfield. You could get your DS a smart card for Greater Anglia and top it up with the rail ticket the night before or even on the day. Lots of boys travel by train to Prittlewell anyway, as it is a lot more flexible than a fixed, single journey coach.

From WHSG / WHSB home to Shenfield if staying for a club or to hang out with friends, 29 or 21 bus from across the road outside Tommy More's to Sourhend Victoria - interchange right outside the station - or get off at Priory Park and use Prittlewell station.

SHSG is direct train to Sourhend Vic, then bus (most get the Arriva no.1, which is the most frequent service).
