Hello All,

My DD will be starting in Sep in 7L. Trying to organize transport (from Billericay) but am straggling, advise would be greatly appreciated!
Some of the buses (from Chelmsford) are now full, so looks like the train is our option.
How do the girls get from the train station to the school please?
Is North station better or Town?
How to get from Town to the school please?

Might be an idea to add / get added 'CCHSG' to your title .

If you look at one of the recent threads re CCHSG, you will see a suggestion to get the train to Mark's Tey (earlier stop than Colchester North), then the bus from there. But the buses can still be very busy / slow during rush hour.

Do you plan to move nearer to Colchester, or is your DD on the waiting list for CCHS, which would be a much easier train journey or simple bus ride on the very regular First Bus 100 route?

Yes, she is on the waiting list for CCHS, but there has bene very little movement this year.

Best bet is to get her into Chelmsford then onto one of the Chelmsford buses however they all leave north Springfield by 730 so you'll be needing to be in Chelmsford by 7am at the latest.

Train you'll want to go marks tey then bus up Lexden Road which is chaos at rush hour, town station and walk or north station and bus.

Its not a nice route for her tbh

The various feedback I’ve seen / received all seem to indicate that it’s fairly difficult to get to / from Colchester Girls, and that it involves a not so nice walk. Is that a fair assessment, or have I misunderstood?

Colchester is hardly the Wild West, but if nothing else, it lays to rest the idea that Essex is flat...

Have you not visited, if you are keen for your DD to try for a place at a school there?

We didn’t attend the open evenings, as we weren’t sure of the commute. However, given how well the school has done in recent years, it’s still back of our minds!

There is a train that does a Billericay - (change at) Shenfield - Colchester route, arriving at 0750h at Colchester North. Another that arrives 20 min later, but would strongly suggest taking the earlier train as you need to factor in time to wait for the 65 bus to arrive. There was also a lady giving out leaflets for the bus from London at the information evening. She was talking about maybe being able to stop off at Mountnessing area if there is enough demand.

The 0722h train from Chelmsford arrives at Colchester Town.

That would be 06.40 from Billericay station on the 100, or the 06.46 train, then...
