Looks like admission policy change pushes the west cliff and Southend ooc scores too high from outlined. One of the offer withdrawal letter westcliff head mentioned that only 4 places are available for ooc students this year. I am not able to attach that screen shot.

370.996 OOC - WHSB not offered - still in shock!!

We were offered CRGS our second choice, DS so upset as wanted to join his brother at WHSB. On waiting list for WHSB.

'Offer withdrawal letter' :?:. Offers, once made, can only be withdrawn in a very limited number of circumstances, 'offered in error' and 'proven applicant fraud' being the main ones.

I am hazarding the guess that what Dr Hayman meant was that all but 4 of their 80% quota was taken up by in catchment applicants, that is, only 4 extra places were available to add to the OOC minimum? Not '4 places altogether'?

That’s a good score! Looks like this year is a very tough one! I am still waiting for the WL to open to see if we have a realistic chance at all. Did you receive any other offers from a school which wasn’t your first preference and/or are you on waiting list for any?

The letter said that southend had erroneously not limited the number of preferential admissions in the ooc area. There should be only 4 preferential admissions in the ooc category. The letter didn't say how many offers to this catefory had been made but it did make it clear that it was withdrawing the offer as the admissions policy had not been correctly adhered to adn the withdrawal was made in line with sections 2.12 and 2.13 of the admissions code.

It will be interesting to see if there is a similar issue with the in catchment preferential category. Would go a long way to explaining the high cut offs.

As in the previous post i read, that WHSB and SHSB, has changed their policies recently for the allocating 80 % IC and 20% OOC.

If they were planning to change the policy , then they should have apply this change before the 11+ registration started for the 2020 entry and let the parents know during the open evenings. So parents and kids can be prepared and planned them themselves for the alternatives.

How can they just make this sudden change and leave all the parent and children in a misery.

Re: WHSB

The increase in IC quota from 75 to 80% (+9) along with the 10% (4 places) allocation to ‘preferential consideration’ children means that there were 13 less places available to (not exclusively) OOC candidates. Not sure whether this wholly explains the big jump in the OOC cutoff.

Either more IC children applied this year and also did well......or Southend council has made more errors....??

(It’s very quiet on the forum this year).

No, as fat as I recall, all the grammar schools consulted on their admissions policies. And SHSB is 5/6 of PAN available to IC applicants, as it has been for several years.

It is the introduction of the preferential places within the IC and OOC categories which is new.

If there is a problem it is likely to be related to ranking the in/out catchment. Hopefully they will either reassure or explain and rectify the situation ASAP. It causes a horrible cascade of issues when the admissions process goes wrong and needs to be rectified.

I am shocked that with that score your son did not get a place at WHSB and may not be with his brother. It is good however that he got at place at CRGS. WHSB and CRGS are miles from each other, do you live in the middle of the two schools, or will one of your sons have to travel a distance?
