Have you given up on both Brentwood School and Mayfield now?
When DD was at SHSG (caveat, she is at university now), the languages taken in KS3 were compulsory French and then either Spanish or German, according to the form allocated. Latin was taken via a lunchtime club and Japanese available as a paid-for twilight class. As far as I can remember, Maths was set from at least year 8 (DD only joined the school at the very end of year 7).
I have no idea how, if at all, it has changed since the new HT took over (but his previous school certainly seemed to improve during his time there), but DD was very happy there, made lovely friends, with whom she has remained close. Her decision to move to WHSG for sixth form surprised us and although she says it wasn't a total mistake, she wished that she had realised whilst a return was still possible that she really should have stayed put.
As for results, dip in, no idea, I'm afraid. It's never been the first thing we've looked at in a school.
