Can someone please explain what scores mean?

Like if greater than X then high chance of acceptance
If less than Y then don't bother putting in CAF etc.

Have a look through these threads?

Remember, though, that all the grammar schools' admissions policies now include priority groups, so e.g. CCHSG and CRGS no longer just admit simply from the simple ranking of scores of all applicants.

Thanks that's useful.

DD got 318. I wonder whether I should put as preference in CAF as OOC candidate because based on previous year's result there is no chance.

You won't prejudice your application for places at other schools by placing whichever school first (or anywhere) on your CAF and being turned down by it), so unless including it would mean ditching another school which would be a safe bet, you could include it anyway. You have to name the school and be refused a place if you want to appeal (although be aware that there is a very low success rate for Essex grammar school appeals).
