Essex scores

Post by BinuThomas »

Hi
My son (August 2011 born) scored 358 in CSSE exam
42 in English & 47 in Maths .

OOC for all southend schools.
We are hoping for a place in Westcliff HSB - does he stand a chance as we are OOC ?

After some advise regarding OOC scores as well - does the distance in OOC still matter ? so is it a general category for everyone in OOC or people ranked based on distance from school. We currently live in Ockendon and planning to move to southend , but unable to buy a property now as not sure if he will get an offer in March !!!!!!!! so confused.

From the pages relating to the admissions criteria for WHSB, OOC applicants not eligible for 'preferential consideration' (that is, not eligible to be considered for the 10% of OOC places which will be allocated first within the OOC allocation):

Then, all remaining places are allocated, in rank order of marks, to any applicants from outside the priority area who have exceeded the pass mark: candidates who score higher marks will be allocated places before those who pass at a lower level. Places will be offered until the total PAN has been reached.

Distance within either the OOC or the IC allocation is only an issue if a tie break (between two boys with the same score competing for the last available place) is required:

Tie Break:
In the event of pupils achieving the same mark for the last available place, priority will be given to any child entitled to ‘preferential consideration’ (see notes); then, if this does not differentiate, to the pupil who lives closest to the School as measured in a straight line from the front door of the child’s normal/habitual place of residence (as assessed in the terms provided, annually, in the Southend Local Authority Secondary Admissions Booklet) to the nearest pupil entrance to the School, with those living nearest being given preference. Distances will bemeasured using the Local Authority’s computerised measuring system. If the same distance is shared by more than one pupil and only one place is available, the place will be awarded on the basis of a computerised random allocation process (supervised by someone independent of the Governing Body.
