Same Exam Date for 2 schools - Chelmsford CCHS

Post by RajCloud »

Friends, i'm new to this forum.
Currently we are in Yorkshire and applying for Heckmondwike (CEM pattern) near Wakefield, very likely my wife getting job transfer to south so we are looking for Chelmsford County High School(CCHS) -CEM pattern. Unfortunately both schools conducting the 11+exam on same date-19th Sep2022. Since we are here now we are planning to apply for both the schools.

Wondering is there any possibility CCHS would consider this if we request to offer supplementary test day on a diff date if we submit supporting evidence of our exam booking. This gives kid opportunity to write 11+ for both the schools.
i'm sure this exam date overlapping would have happened in past years, pls advise from your exp if CCHS consider the request and grant supplementary test day

Thanks in advance

I am wondering if in fact the exam will be the same as it is on the same day, you would need to check if this is the case as you can only take the exam once
Chelmsford County High School for Girls is part of a group of Grammar Schools who will be using a
common admissions test for September 2023 entry. The group includes Chelmsford County High School
for Girls, the Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools and Kendrick School. In addition, there are other
schools in the wider geographical area who will be using the same test on the same day. The tests will
take place on *Monday 19th September 2022 (*Subject to DFE and Public Health England guidance and
restrictions in place.). Applicants for any of these schools may only take the test once; the raw marks from
the test will be passed to the other schools for inclusion in the appropriate standardisation sample but
only if you have registered with each school in accordance with their admissions policy. The
responsibility to complete this process accurately lies wholly with the parent/guardian. If it is found
that an applicant has taken the test more than once, the raw scores for the first attempt will be used for the
standardisation process.

It’s quite possible that if they are both CEM and on the same date it’s the same exam.

If that’s the case then your DC wouldn’t be able to take the exam again, but may be able to share the score with both.

It would be very unlikely that anyone has asked given the distance between the two areas.

Most schools don’t offer alternative dates in this scenario though.

Have you checked any residency requirements in the admissions policies.

Thanks a lot for the quick response, both schools have allocations for outside catchment although not many seats.
We will check with CCHS schools if they consider the CEM score of another school exam that take place on same date.
Hope we get answer , will post it here
Thanks again

Wrt home address for the purposes of establishing whether the applicant is in catchment or not, the wording is The offer of a place is conditional upon the applicant being continuously resident within the priority area (at their permanent home address) between 1st September of Year 6 and the start of Year 7 at CCHS.

The full policy is here:
https://www.cchs.co.uk/wp-content/uploa ... c-21-1.pdf

Whereabouts in the 'south' will your DW be based? The southern edge of the priority area for CCHS takes you into places which are quite convenient for travel to Westcliff High School for Girls and / or Southend High School for Girls (and in the case of parts of Rayleigh, also in the priority area for those schools, which is the postcode areas SS0 - SS9 inclusive). Taking the CSSE test as well, would potentially allow access to those schools, as well as CCHSG in Colchester.

The CSSE main test date this year is Saturday September 17th.

Thanks, very true getting inside certain postcodes may give likely chance to qualify for few good schools...as still we are new and understanding the postcodes.
Have dropped email to CCHS to find the policy on CEM Exam date conflicting for 2 schools.
Also few frds recommended Southend and West-cliff for Girls, we are yet to study abt it
