Anyone else here for the 2019 test (Entry 2020)

Post by Brackenboo »

Just wondered if anyone else was here with a DC sitting the 2019 test. After reading the posts about this years test rankings etc, hoping we're in for a smoother ride

Edited to 2019...

Hi and welcome :-)
Are you talking about the rest in 2020, or admission in 2020? If it’s the test, wow, just chill for a year at least:-)
If not, hope it’s all sorted by next year:-)

This is a 'gap' year for me. My oldest 2 are now in GS having taken their tests in 2016 and 2017. My youngest will be taking his next year (2019). I'm really hoping for no Cryptgate or associated problems so that we can all make a fairer assessment of what the GS can offer our children.

I too am on a "gap" year. DD took the test last year and got her preferred school (Ribston) which she is loving. We've just started the journey with DS, who will take it next September for 2020 entry.

Nice to see there are a few others. We went round some of the open days and DD is interested in going to grammar and liked Ribston the most. Our local catcment school is improving but would definitely like to have lots of options come this time next year :)

For those who have started, have you hired a tutor or diy'ing. We currently have a tutor once a week and trying to encourage lots of reading and times tables practice.

For anyone who has been through it before, any recommendations?

DD went to an 11+ class once a week and a second session aimed at practice in maths and comprehension. There are centres in both Cheltenham and Gloucester. She really enjoyed the social side of being part of a group and it was well-structured. I won't give the name on here as I suspect that's against forum rules but happy to share it if you pm me.

Diy’ed oldest two dc, both achieved good qualifying scores. Just started with dc3, around 30-60 minutes each on Maths and VR and 15 minutes on NVR each week. Plus making sure that he reads during the week and spontaneous maths and other discussions during odd moments (car journeys, whilst making dinner, etc.) And a weekly subscription to First News kids’ newspaper as he likes current affairs!

Writing all that down sounds like loads! Thankfully his school have massively reduced their homework, so we’re using the extra time for 11+.
