This is all very confusing, we live in churchdown not gloucester so does that count, we come under the bracket of tewkesbury and gloucester, our nearest grammar is hsfg, which is ds first choice. I am lookin at bus options and looks like its going to cost nearly eight hundred pounds a year.

Yup, it IS confusing and probably rules out most children from being eligible. But if you are more than 3 miles (and not in so doing nearer Ribston) and if your Borough Council is Glos (don't know if there is a Churchdown BC, sorry) then sounds like you're in with a shout. But best bet is to ring them - always seem friendly and helpful. Good luck! Jolly expensive otherwise
