Transport from Cheltenham to Stroud High or Ribston?

Does anyone have any information on this? We're trying to consider how hard to pursue being in the twilight zone for SHS & Ribston. School website for SHS says transport all being withdrawn in Sept 2012 & Ribston no information that we could find. We know that transport is private responsibility but that there are well established private bus arrangements for the like of HSfG etc. Any information on how many people go Cheltenham to SHS and/or Ribston and how they do it would be really helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for that - we were pretty sure we'd heard about one for Ribston but couldn't find it!

Does anything exist for SHS?

The transport from Cheltenham to Ribston is via Rob Dix and apparently it's a very good (if expensive) service. Call the school and they can give you the deatails. The Rob Dix transport from Cheltenham takes less time to get to Ribston than the Bennetts bus takes to HSFG, which is much closer.

Fret not, there will always be a way to GET there, it's just the getting in we have to worry about.

I will also add that the headteacher of Ribston did say on the Open Evening that in the past three years they have not turned anyone away who received the qualifying score and put Ribston as a first choice. That is encouraging, isn't it? Best of luck!

My DD's friend comes from Hatherley, catches public bus from Shurdington area to Cainscross road, Stroud. Not sure what the times are or costs though, but can ask DD to find out.

Yes, there is a public bus that goes from Chelt to Stroud. It certainly goes along the Shurdington Rd and then whistles along the A46. Can't remember the number of it - 49 maybe? I think there may only be one timetabled bus that would get a DC to school in time in the morning (though I suppose that's the same for all DCs going by school bus too.)

Please can someone help. I phoned Ribston and they told me Stagecoach run the bus from Cheltenham. Have just phoned them and they said that they do not. I cannot find any information for Rob Dix on google so am very confused! I would like to know the pick up points around Cheltenham.

From what I've found out, there's no bus organised by the school, but there is a private bus run by a bloke called Rob Dix (I expect this is the same as "Bob's bus"). The first pick-up is Swindon Road at 7:20, the last one at Arle Court at 8:05 (stopping at racecourse, Hewlett Rd and Lansdown Road along the way.) It then drops off at Ribston at 8:15 and Crypt at 8:20. When I spoke to the man, he said there wasn't really much flexibility about changing the route on the way there, because they are up against it time-wise. However, he can do more drop-offs on the way back if needed. The official timetable on the way back shows a first drop-off at Arle Court at 15.55 and a final one at Leckhampton Rd at 16.45pm. His telephone number is 01452 550612.

One thing you do need to know is that this costs £1,237 for the 09/10 school year. (Gulp.) [/i][/i] [/color]

Thanks! Pity it does not seem to be a bigger enterprise. I am worried about the distance and also the fact DD would have to get 2 buses if she missed that one or if Bob stopped his service. I will give him a call.
