Last day at primary tomorrow!
Are we all feeling tired and emotional as our DC's time at primary comes to an end?
Have to confess that I have already been tearful just thinking about it, so expect to be a blubbering wreck tomorrow (actually, later today)

I have seen my 5 children through primary school over the last 21 years without a break and so today is a very emotional day for me as my DS leaves. I can't believe the day is finally here
Re: Last day at primary tomorrow!
We had a lovely evening last night with Leavers Evening- it was done like the Oscars- the head awarded all the children with a serious and a funny award. My DD was the most expressive writer and having the ability to talk about "anything and everything" which was completely appropriate.
She has something lovely to say about all the Yr6 children and the children did their own presentation on their best memories of primary school - it was fab. Just got to get through this afternoon now.

Re: Last day at primary tomorrow!
Our ds finished on monday, and although a bit sad at the school gates it was actually nice once we got home and it was finally 'done'. Hope you all feel the same way later
Re: Last day at primary tomorrow!
Sat through a ghastly mawkish production last night which had clearly been designed to wring tears from all present but actually some of the girls got a huge fit of the giggles which defused the tension rather nicely.
Have to admit I am not ready for this though: it's my last one to leave primary school, he is young in the year, it's been a lovely school for him and I know from experience that it really is never such a relaxed time again, and that it just gets a lot more serious from here. I have never had the desire to see him stretched, challenged or otherwise 'brought on' as he is a self starter and takes what he wants from life- so I don't have a huge feeling of gleeful anticipation about the shape his future academic career will take. Just want him to have lots more long days of carefree, seize-the-moment happiness, and they are harder to have once you're at secondary school.

I didn't expect to feel so emotional. Children and parents in tears.
I'm not sure why I feel so sad. Maybe just because it's the end of an era or another stark reminder of the brisk passage of time. Or maybe because I fear that once at secondary school I'll lose a part of her (the growing up, the independence).
Yes, I know it has to happen and I want it to, but that doesn't stop me feeling sad. DD1 may be ready for it but I'm clearly not.
