2015 Admissions - How are we all doing ?

Now 2014 allocation is all done, I was just wondering how the 2015 parents were doing. I went to the open morning at SHS today, not much new info but a nice little talk from the new head.

The ones to go to are the prospective parent's evenings, as they are going to talk through how to apply etc. For SHS these are:

Weds 12th March 6 pm
Tues 18th March 7pm

It says these are for parents only.

So are any of you doing any prep yet ? how many do you think will apply from your schools?

Interesting prospective parents evening at SHS. I found out there will be no qualifying scores anymore, just ranking. Each school will then have a different ranking cut off. So hopefully all a bit clearer.
:o

That's interesting. One thing, though. A child is unlikely to have the same ranking for each school, as not all children will have their scores shared with every school, and the tie-break criteria within each score will be different. EG a child living closer to one school or having a sibling there will be ranked slightly higher for that school.

Hmmm with a DD who will have only turned 10 a month before I hope rankings will still factor in age :?

Hi there,

So how do we find out which school have what tie break criteria . Will it be published on individual school websites? On lunch break at work at the mo so don't have time to trawl through.. :)

thank you

Yes admissions did confirm your child will have a different ranking for each school. I just hope the cut off allows all of the places to be filled. It must be devastating when a child doesn't reach qualifying score and yet the academic year starts half full. A tough one for the decision makers, but I feel it is better for more to qualify and at least ensure all places are full, this seems to have happened this year as I heard lots of children who qualified but didn't get a place.

Hi NancyB

I have just checked with admissions who inform me that the only tie break factor will now be geographical distance :D
