Question about ranking

Hi.

This night sound like a stupid question but I just want to be sure I've understood this correctly.

My son would like to go to Crypt and has qualified and ranked around 220. It said in the email that last year the lowest rank that was accepted was around 340. Does that mean that my son will more than likely get in to the school as he is well within this?

The reason for confusion was that when talking to someone around a year ago they were telling me that you had to be in the top 120 to have a chance of getting in, but I guess that doesn't take in to account those that share results but don't end up going to that school?

Yes it means that if 100 boys go elsewhere for whatever reason your son should get a place. It will be confirmed in March when the places are sent out you'll know for certain. Well done :D

Congratulations. Your son is pretty sure of a place at Crypt. :D

You need to be in the top 120 to be certain of a place, but as you've realised, because lots of parents share results with more than one GS but each child can only take a place at one school, people get in with much lower rankings than 120. Earlier in the thread somebody posted the lowest ranking that's got into Crypt for the last three years, and they are all in the 340s, so your son is sitting pretty with a rank of 220.

Congratulations to your son. I am sure that he will get a place at Crypt. My son is top 112 for Crypt but he will be going to STR since his older brother is there. Some of the students that are ranked higher than you son may chose to go Pates and Tommies freeing up space for your son.
