Yet another CAF question

Apologies to all for yet another CAF question…

My daughter didn’t reach the qualifying rank. We are considering appealing in March (she is predicted level 5s and level 6 in maths). Should we still list the grammar school on the CAF? We know there’s no chance of a place but is listing it on the CAF somehow a prerequisite of appealing?

If the answer is yes, I know that our second choice of school (a local comprehensive) becomes our effective first choice. But, having listed it in second place, would we be allocated this school only after all families who put it as their real first choice have been offered a place (and so potentially lose out if the school is over subscribed)?

Thanks in advance :)
