Hi all, I was wondering if there are any stats on how many kids sit the GS test each year so I can gauge just how competitive it is. Also if we do some practice papers what sort of percentage will my DS need to get to have a good chance of gaining a place? Any help appreciated!

You might be able to get past numbers by asking the council education department but I think it is in the range of 2000 - 2500 for the past few years. An article from a local paper suggested it was about 2000 for 2013 and 2300 for 2012. It varies each year as it is an opt in test and so depends on who wants to apply for the test and may also depend on how many are in the eligible cohort each year including how many out of county applicants.

Also you need to factor in the increase in birth numbers each year as that may well include an increase in numbers trying for the exams, especially as not all of the more sort after comps are increasing their intake numbers.
