Crypt goes Coed from 2018

Post by chococandy16 »

Some people might be interested to know that Crypt goes Coed from 2018. Which means current year 5 girls will be offered admissions.

This will stop the long running monopolisation of Pates as the only coed in gloucestershire.

Yes, but also means fewer places available for boys as none of the girls' schools are taking boys... :(

(I speak as one with a Y5 DS).

O dear, didn't think about that. Talk of a selfish :D mum of girls.

Maybe HSFG have some plans since their A level is mixed

Not technically true, but depends on how you view it.

Pates have for many years had a higher intake of boys - some years outnumbering girls as much as 3 to 1. Therefore, it could be argued that boys have always had more places than girls. There will be less places for boys in a single sex school, but not necessarily overall. As with Pates, places will be offered at Crypt to the highest qualifiers.

Alternatively, in recent years the girls grammars PANs have always outnumbered the boys grammars. Therefore Pates being boy-heavy could have evened numbers out. Without having actual statistics (as PANs have been exceeded and Pates don't reveal gender numbers) it will be difficult to predict if a gender will lose out.

Just to confirm - in April Ribston confirmed they have no intention of increasing PAN or going co-ed.

There was a lot of discussion on the ins and outs of this on the thread above. My personal opinion has always been that it is an attempt to capitalise on the leakage of girls from HSFG and Ribston at sixth form, which has meant a huge influx of able girls into STRS, and possibly Pates, with little or no return traffic.
By catching them young, they are more likely to keep them!

HSFG have no plans to go co-ed. But who knows what direction the incoming Head will want to take?

Yes, intake will rise to 150.
Agree with dining room comments DC17C  . It is too small now :!:. But they do stagger lunch times so that has helped.
