I know birthdate is definitely a factor.
No marks could be deducted or added for birthdate - standardisation takes account of it so that your child is only compared with people born in the same month.

Travel distance can not be used at this stage and would not have affected scores or ranks. It can only come into play as an oversubscription criterion on national allocation day in March and then only if two candidates tie for a place and the school in question has stated that travel distance will be used as a tiebreak. Offhand I do not think any of the Gloucestershire grammars has done this.

HSFG didn't say

Our email from HSFG said 674 girls shared results

Re the HSFG and Ribston rankings and number of shares, the results are still quite odd. As others have said 990 shared with Ribston and only 674 with HSFG, implying that Ribston is suddenly much more popular. But... my daughter's rank for Ribston is higher than for HSFG (ranked approx 290 for Ribston and 310 for HSFG). That would imply that all the 'extra' people who shared with Ribston are towards the lower end of the ability range, since there are far more girls below her on the Ribston list (and slightly fewer above her) than on the HSFG list.

For those who haven't seen it yet, we have confirmation from SHS, Marling and HSFG that they all apply the PP before the ranking are done.

The other schools don't
This means that those children get given a place in top 150 now, and not on March 1st.

And STRS don't, despite prioritising qualifying pp children above other qualifiers.

Wouldn't it be nice if (a) all the grammars did the same thing here and (b) they told us in advance that they would do it.

Crypt are changing their Pupil Premium policy next year. As stated elsewhere on this forum, they currently only prioritise PP pupils in their oversubscription criteria (the 150th place). This is a proposal, but by now I assume it's been agreed as this was back in June:

2019 entry Year 7 - no changes. We shall continue to prioritise Pupil Premium children in our oversubscription criteria.
2020 entry In 2020 Pupil Premium pupils for Year 7 will automatically be offered a place if they meet the qualified standard.

The oversubscription criteria is how the school will allocate places if there are more applicants than school can accommodate. The oversubscription criteria is detailed in the Admissions policy.

In the event of oversubscription, where there are a number of candidates with an equal qualifying score around the 150th place, the following criteria shall be used to determine those who shall be offered places. Criteria will be applied in the order below:
It is basically

1. Looked After Children / Previously Looked After Children
2. Pupil Premium children
3. Children whose parents are members of staff
4. All other children

The published oversubscription criteria should be very clear to understand.

It is clear from this document that the school are prioritising PP

However, plenty of people on this forum have interpreted the admissions policy differently. They appear to have interpreted it as tie breaker for equal scores around 150th place.
