It’s an abbreviation for Sir Thomas Rich’s school, which I’m hoping my son will attend.
I believe from reading they place into sets according to Grammar test results and Sats results.

STRS (Tommies) don't place boys into sets in Y7 (or Y8 to my knowledge) so it's very unlikely that grammar school test results or SATS have any influence on this.
