Transport =Bristol to Crypt and Marling

Hi All , I hope to find some reply here. My DS has a qualifying score for Crypt and Marling and we are hopeful that he will secure a place atleast in one. From what i understand is , although there are bus operators advertised on the school page, they don't run their services as they think that arent many children and it is not economical for the bus operators.

Can parents living in Bristol please share their experiences of how are they managing their DCs exisiting commute please?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Somebody asked a similar question below, I would imagine Marling would be easier but would still be a long day. I would look at train/ bus options but question if it's worth the travel for 5 years.

We're about 3 miles away and DD would still need to be on a bus at about 7:30...

Thanks Brackenboo. Will surely have a look at the train options.

I emailed and they said it isnt economical for them to run their services between Bristol and these schools.

Could parents living in Bristol can provide some inputs too please? or share some contacts of parents whose children are commuting to these schools currently from Bristol?

Thanks again

I think there is a bus which goes from Bristol to the Gloucester Grammar schools, it may be worth giving them a call.

I now know of lots of children from s glos / n Bristol whose children have qualified for the Stroud grammars. There is also a couple of car pools full of children making this journey already.

I think there appears to be enough children to warrant a mini bus from a central point (perhaps Aztec west like the glos grammar buses) to Stroud. (We are currently in that predicament but will move towards Stroud and enjoy the cheaper house prices!) and this type of direct transport will certainly aid the lengthy commute to bring it on a par with school transport which have a multitude of stops, so I expect if denwells were to reconsider now, they might find that the journey is economically viable. I would certainly be interested in this service until we confirm our move.

(To pre empty the ‘horrid commute’ comments, I am also minded that the commute in Bristol for decent schools could also be lengthy due to the horrendous traffic in the city. The journey from s glos to the private schools in the centre of town is probably of a similar duration. Things are considerably different for children who live in the city. The convenience of a fantastic local school sadly just isn’t available in Bristol unless you live on the doorstep of a very few number of schools and are prepared to pay the equivalent of school fees+++ on your mortgage for the privilege)

Denwells currently (and have for quite a few years I believe) run a bus service from Bristol to STR and Pate's, their number 7. They had had lots of parents wanting a service from Bristol to the other three Gloucester GSs so decided to replace the 7 with two buses: the 8 to Pates only and the 9 to Crypt, Ribston, Denmark Road and STR.

After launching this service they didn't get sufficient sign up to run two buses so cancelled the idea and re-instated bus 7. This was their email:

Regrettably I am writing to advise you that we will not be running the proposed Bus 8 and Bus 9 dedicated Services to Pate’s and Gloucester Schools respectively from September.
I can’t really believe I am having to cancel these services as their introduction was solely in response to customer demand.
Despite my earlier warnings that direct services would incur a significant increase in the costs Parents continued to assure me that the support was there and so we launched these two new services to replace the existing Bus 7.
Sadly the support for these services has not been forthcoming and I feel very badly let down by some of the parents who were lobbying for these Buses to be introduced.
My very sincere apologies to the parents that have signed up for either of these services and for the obvious inconvenience this decision will now cause particularly to those of you with children attending Crypt, HSFG or Ribston.
We will re-instate the existing Bus 7 service which serves Pate’s and STR only but this will depend on the required level of support.
We are unable to cover Crypt, HSFG Denmark Road or Ribston.
I am so sorry to mess you around with this transport, this decision was not taken lightly.
Based on the anticipated support we made a huge decision to go with the two new Bus services .
We have put a lot of expense, time and energy into launching these services but all, unfortunately, to no avail.

Based on this, I doubt they will try the experiment again next year.

We are in Bristol and thinking of DRHS for my DD. I know atleast 3 other people who would be at DRHS and Crypt.

Should we give a try again for the bus option to Crypt, DRHS and Ribston potentially? Anybody else interested?

Could we add Ribston and DRHS also to the subject to gain attention of others please? Thanks

Thanks for the insight. Much appreciated.
We would certainly be interested in a Bristol to Stroud route. If Denwells or another provider is not forthcoming, then perhaps a parent organised transport system could be organised?

I have spoken with Denwell and they said if more people register their interest for Gloucestershire schools the minimum students they can take is 40 and then they can start running another service to Gloucestershire.

For Marling Denwell said they are looking to start minibus service. If I were you I would contact Denwell and register your interest.

Thanks. I emailed Denwells this afternoon and they said the same thing. They asked that I spread the word - hopefully it is popular enough to warrant a minibus service!
