My daughter is due to sit the test in October. She is so eager to go to Stroud High School. We are doing lots of practice and have just done the familiarisation work that Stroud High published on their website in June. She averaged at 55% in the papers which I’m sure is not what we should be aiming for. I haven’t told her it’s not enough but not sure what percentage she should be aiming for. Could anyone else tell me what their child got and how far off she is. She needs to speed up as if timing wasn’t an issue I’m sure she would gain a higher score. Many thanks

if you do timed papers she will speed up. I got myself to 100 VR in 22 mins while challenging my dds to speed up. Speed all lost very quickly so you need to peak at the right time. DG

I haven’t done the familiarisation material yet, I was saving it for next month.

Has your DD done any practice papers by CGP or Bond or any mocks? My DC scored significantly lower on the mock than at home but ‘as ranked’ and ‘compared to others getting a similar score’ the mock provider thought DC would be able to secure a grammar place. In fact I was quite worried about the mock Score and nearly posted as it was so low!

We speeded up and got lots of silly errors so currently a little slower but more correct.

Polgara-Glos did you take part in the mock test this weekend in Glos?

No, sorry. If it’s the one I’m thinking of, how was it? DC has done a revision course via Zoom with them and it seemed fine but we did the mock with another company we used for a virtual mock earlier in the year. We wanted the consistency from the one mock provider.. I’ll probably post about it on the other thread rather than distract this one.

We've not tackled the familiarisation materials yet. I'm not sure whether they're illustrating the style or difficulty or both. DD sat the mock this weekend. It went ok, but I wasn't really interested in the results, just acclimatising her to the environment. I don't think you can read all that much into the scores - they could have been an incredibly clever cohort, or towards the other end of the scale. That said, I had a go, and my result wasn't as good as the top marks achieved! Compared to the books we've got, the question styles seemed a bit different in places, but it's all good practice.
We're still taking it easy. I think we've about peaked, apparently the learning part of the brain is full, so only the occasional 10 minute test for us, even if I do want to get her to do more!

Hi Latetothegame,

We have done familiarisation material last month and also asked on the forum what other kids got, but it seems most people are keeping these tests for later.
DD2 got around 65% on average; above 70% for maths and comprehension but around 55% for words and NVR. Was any of the sections stronger than others?
There was just too many pictures for the time allowed, so we have been doing more of those to speed up a bit. We haven't done any other full tests yet, so have no comparison, but aiming to start again next week.
Also, last year verbal was weighted double, so if your DD has stronger verbal this would lift up her overall score (providing the scoring this year will be similar to last year's).
Hope this helps, and hopefully we can see more familiarisation results here.

Hello, we’ve looked at the familiarisation this week and scored around 70-80% on Maths and Word choices, haven't tried the others yet. If they are at the level of the test, my son found easier than Mock Tests we have done so far.
Also interested how others have found them too.

We've not done the familiarisation materials yet, but just wanted to add in that I don't think we can really go by average scores in mocks etc from previous years. Essentially I think lockdown will have affected kids in so many ways that I think it's pretty much impossible to say.
Some kids may have spent the entire time at home being pushed through 11+ practice materials, some will have not received much education at all, some may have not responded well to online tutoring etc, some may have loved it.
Then add in the fact that we've got to choose schools without knowing results, so we could find that the popularity of the schools change. Will everyone put Pates as first choice just in case? Or will people decide that they don't want to use a space as DC would normally have to do so well?
All in all I think we just do our best and hope for the best :? Personally I just wish we could get the test over and done with!
