Pate’s uniform

Post by Lysander »

Just trying to get dd some uniform for next year. The sports site only has two items in stock and the main uniform shop appears to be missing lots too. Is this normal, and is it more straightforward to buy later in the summer?

Also, on skirts. I know the school is introducing a pleated skirt this year, and that is the only type being sold by monkhouse online. Do you think the Y7 girls will be largely wearing this type or the old type? Dd won’t want to stand out in that wrong way!

Thanks for asking this! Am in exact same boat and noticed lots of stuff isn't available to buy online. The new skirts are only available in 28 inch waist atm.

I went into Monkhouse in Cheltenham today and managed to get everything, including skirts in the tiniest possible size (DD tried on a blazer for age 7 at first - although we ended up with a huge looking age 9 one which gives her room to grow!) They said that the pleated skirts were what new pupils should get, so that’s what we ended up with. They have PGS on them, so sadly can’t be substituted with cheaper ones from supermarkets, but fortunately they do come in some very small sizes!

For the compulsory sports kit it’s only available online and mainly out of stock but you can sign up for email alerts for when things come in.

Also, at Monkhouse, they have an appointment system. We didn’t have an appointment and were lucky to be fitted in - fortunately Pate’s doesn’t have as extensive collection of compulsory items as some of the other schools they cater for, so it was quite quick, but if you’re making a journey to Cheltenham it’s probably best to book.

We're the previous skirts 'branded'? If not, it seems a rather odd time to introduce this feature.

agree it does seem curious - I too thought the move was very much away from specific branded item from specific supplier for state school uniform.

Certainly useful information!! Thanks all !

I'm a little confused on the sports kit though - other than the Polo shirt and skorts for girls, are the red socks + mouth guard + shin guard necessary? What about sizes? Help pls!

If the girls play football they will need the shin pads. If they play hockey, they will need both the shin pads and the mouthguard. Unless you have a custom mouth guard made by your dentist or a specialist company, the sizes are usually something like 'youth' and 'adult'. Shin pads are normally sized by height.

Thanks so much for the advice!

Did I understand correctly - that all children are required to play all sports in Y7?

Sorry, I'm not in your area, was just responding re why girls might need the items you were querying (and if the 'red socks' are knee length, then they would need them for either sport, over the shin pads :)).

Does it say somewhere under 'curriculum'?

On sizes, I have got XXS for all the sports kit and it fits someone who is in a 22 inch waist skirt and a size 30 blazer. I think that XS or S will be the size needed for most eleven-year-olds: my DD is quite petite.
