You'll get a better response if you give a rough idea of where you live.Punamv83 wrote:Hello. My son is joining SCD in September and I am interested in getting in touch with other parents who can offer me advice on travel by car share or private minibus. Thanks

Hi - those whose kids go from Harrow, if you aren't in the catchment how did the kids get admission in SCD? Are you able to apply for SW SCD test and get admitted while being in Harrow?
Sorry it's my first child we are applying for in 2 years so a bit lost..

Re: Transport to st clement danes school
SCD has a lower exam allocation than other SW Herts Consortium schools (only 10%) but, crucially, there is NO catchment requirement for that 10%.

For those thinking of applying - here are the oversubscription criteria for SCD
1. The Governors will fulfil their legal obligation to allocate a place to a looked after child or a child who was
previously looked after this includes previously looked after children from abroad. For further details please
read Section 1 of the Admissions Policy.
2. Children whose brother or sister is in attendance at the school at the time of application. For further details
please read Section 2 of the Secondary Transfer Admissions Policy.
3. Children of staff who are permanently employed to work at St Clement Danes School. For further details
please read Section 3 of the Secondary Transfer Admissions Policy.
4. Up to 10% of places will be for students demonstrating musical aptitude as determined by test during the
autumn term. For further details please read Section 4 of the Secondary Transfer Admissions Policy.
5. Up to 10% of places will be for students demonstrating academic ability. This will be determined by test
during the autumn term and places will be awarded in merit order. For further details please read Section 4 of
the Secondary Transfer Admissions Policy.
6. Distance places will be allocated on the basis of proximity to the school, with priority given to WD3 postcodes
only. The distance from the school to an applicant’s home address is calculated using a straight line distance
measurement provided by AddressBase Premium. For further details please read Section 5 of the Secondary
Transfer Admissions Policy.
7. Any remaining places will be allocated on the basis of proximity to the school, outside the WD3 postcode area.

Congratulations to both of your DD's in being offered a place .
But looking at the map, the school is quite a distance from Wembley - is How will they get there? not something that you considered before applying?

Re: Transport to st clement danes school
The metropolitan line is the logical way to get to and from the school from that part of London. It offers far more flexibility than a private or parent organised travel - along with more health and safety features. Travelling by public transport actually enables DC to participate fully in school life and take advantage of what it offers - which presumably is one of the reasons for travelling so far for a school. Congratulations to all your DC.

Re: Transport to st clement danes school
The closest Grammar school from Wembley/ Brent area is apparently HBS (depends where one lives) the other option is SCD which seems to be less rigid on catchment.
Yes, Metropolitan line takes to Chorleywood station in about 35 mins. What we see is a 26min walk from Chorleywood station to St Clement Danes school on pathway.
We were wondering if there are any shuttle/ bus from Chorleywood station or if there is a shortcut through the fields which children use in morning/afternoon for SCD. We came across Bus route 336 (takes 3 mins) but its timetable is a bit odd - so if there are practical experiences of someone's children using public transport from Chorleywood station then that will help.
Thanks

Re: Transport to st clement danes school
SCD is the only SW Herts school with no catchment restriction for the exam and music intake, so there are many DCs who commute from various parts of LB Harrow.
Most take the Met line and then walk to school. Many SCD pupils who live in Chorleywood also walk the same route.
