Music test stage 2 standard
Hi there, what is the level of music ability test stage 2? Would a child who has passed a grade 1 Trinity exam with merit (tenerhorn) stand a chance or is the standard much higher? The children who get through schools in the consortium based on this test, how many years approx have they been training for and what grade exam would have they passed when they take the test. Just want to know the general standard to be in the top 25% of students im MAT.
Thanks
Thanks

Hi, others will know more than I do, but my impression is that they're generally expecting around Grade 3 or above, but I think for more unusual instruments (and I should think tenor horn would count as such), they would be open to lower levels of current attainment. They are after all judging for aptitude rather than achievement, so they're really looking for overall attitude and potential rather than a hard and fast Grade.

It is all about musicality, not grades.
They are looking for their relationship to the music.
Better to know a lower grade piece well and play it well than attempt a harder piece and not engage with it properly.
