When we went last year we parked at the school. They turned some of the school playing fields into a giant car park and there was loads of parking space. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get parked :)

I imagine that they will probably do that every year as there really isn't anywhere nearby to park.

Hi Josa

I'd be interested to hear what you thought of the open day yesterday? I took my DS to the afternoon one which was fairly busy, altho' I know it's usually packed out in the evening.

I do have a DD already there (so am biased  ) but was really struck - as usual - by how many kids are willing to help out & how they all seem so happy there. The facilities are great - one mum in my group with a son at a private prep kept saying they were better than at his school (don't know which one that was though!).

Many thanks AlisonR for the info.

Hi Tense,

Couldn't make it yesterday, got home from work and younger ds wasn't feeling too well (high temperature, vomiting etc), really gutted and so was ds as he was looking forward to it.

I got some feedback though from a close friend that went. She said it is a fantastic school and she really really loves it, great sports facilities, great results, (I had seen it mentioned in the financial times as one of the top 10 comprehensives in the UK), my friend got the impression from the headmaster's speech that it's highly focused on maths, the students she met looked really happy, all in all a very good school and one she'll definitely be putting down on her CAF form.

I'm not sure if they have any open mornings planned or if we might have to wait till next year as ds is in yr5 so we still have a year to go although would have preferred to have gone yesterday to minimise the pressure next year :)

Cheers

That's a shame Josa, hope your DS is feeling better. Parmiter's does have a number of sessions next week when you can see the school on an ordinary day - not sure if these are for Yr 6s only though.

Not surprised the head highlighted maths - he is no doubt rightly proud of the school's excellent maths departments and its results. Technology - including maths - is one of the schools three specialisms, the others being music and languages.

I think the school has something to appeal to everyone!
