Moving into the area

Post by Londondad »

Does anyone know how LA's deal with people who move into the area after March? I know if it's after Sept it's an in-year admission but what is the procedure for families who move in say, between April - August in Year 6? Any ideas?

I imagine it'll be based on the schools admissions policies, It might be difficult with the selective and partially selective schools. Somehow I can't see them organizing a special exam for one child, it might be wishful thinking but if a child has sat a recognized eleven plus exam in another area, then maybe ( if you're very lucky) their score will be taken into account. Otherwise it may just be a place on the waiting list based on distance.

It does seem that less people move house once their children hit 11+

Nitram has just had this in North Yorkshire (moving to Harrogate thread) .
Nitram's DC (who had passed in Kent) had to take the entrance exam in April and then on getting the result had to apply to already oversubscribed grammar schools and also a comprehensive.
Eventually they had to appeal for both GS (1 and 2 on their CAF) and were accepted at one of them.
Stressful experience and better avoided if you can I think...
