Help! Bushey Meads...

Hello,

I am a bit panicky now that I need to apply for my DS's three options. We are thinking also of Bushey Meads (last minute plan) but I am not sure I can understand the admission criteria.

Do they admit children on Academic results only or first distance then academic?

Can somebody who has been through the procees previously explain this to me?

We would apply, but from what I understood from their website is that they take distance into consideration for all places, we live in North Watford so not sure if we would have a realistic chance.

Thank you

Bushey Meads split all of the applicants into four Bands, A, B, C and D based on their scores in the academic test. Each band contains a quarter of the children applying. So band A is the top 25%, band B the next 25%, C the next 25% and band D the bottom 25%.

The academic scores are only used to determine which band each child is placed in.
Then they take the 17 children with the top scores in Bushey Meads own technology appitude test.

Then within each band 39/38 places are allocated, with siblings getting in first and then the remaining places in each band are allocated based on distance from the school.

If all children in a particular band have been allocated a place but there are still places free in that band then the places are allocated from the bands either side.

The SW Herts admissions statistics sticky will give you an idea on how far out each band went in recent years.

Hope that helps you a little. If you have any further questions fire away as I'm sure someone on the boards will have an answer for you.
