Dates for 2012 Consortium exams

DD1's primary sent out notices informing of exam dates yesterday. Interestingly, the letter did not make clear that the tests are only for those seeking selective education. It was phrased in a way that suggested that it was for entry for all pupils transferring to secondary school in 2013. If I hadn't known I would have thought it was compulsory, for entry to any school. I wonder if this is standard?

It is required for all applicants for Bushey Meads and Queens'. It's not strictly compulsory, but anyone who doesn't do these tests will have very limited choices later in the year, unless they live very near one of the other schools or have a sibling there.
