just look at their website

note though that taking 3 sciences was compulsory (not sure if it still is but I guess so) and not all girls the are good at science.

This won't tell you how well your child will do!

Ask them about progress in Science.

At DAO 85% of the students in the year out of 200 take Triple Science. You need to be at 6C at the end of Y9 to qualify. I have dd's in Y8 and Y9 who will both do Triple Science. I think they have been taught Science very well and if you look on the website you will see the exit results and a list of university and subject destinations. There is an Open evening coming up in May where you will get a chance to ask questions about how Science is taught. What Year is your dd currently in and generally where do you live at the moment? If she is in Y5 you will need to get your skates on to get into the catchment area before the deadline to apply to sit the test which is in early September. DG

FWIW, I have a pretty strong interest in my DDs NOT being doctors. DW's a doctor and her life is horrible. Having said that, I think some Doctors have an OK time and DD2 in particular has excellent interpersonal skills that might be useful as a GP, but I wouldn't wish that on her at all.
However, I love science...
OP asks a very strange question, though. One which quite probably shouldn't be answered by looking at exam results, but by talking to the teachers in the schools concerned.

HBS would be a very good option. It has an excellent science department and all the girls take triple science. If your dd has the potential she will definitely achieve A*s.

Hi SummersLazy! My DD is at Henrietta Barnett School.

I have to say that you worry me. You have said nothing about school attributes which might make your child either happy or a rounded individual. You have said nothing about the peers or the families which make such a difference at any school.

I don't know BarnetDad as a fellow HBS parent. But I do know of some of the activities - music, for example - which he has written about in passing in these pages. I know what ethos this represents and how much parental support this needs. The girls, taken together, and the families make Henrietta Barnett an astonishing school and a successful educational community which nurtures and develops talented girls.

Also, for the most selective schools, GCSE results are largely irrelevant. All girls at HBS are expected to get very high GCSE grades at just about every subject. These particular statistics at HBS are not helpful in your context. If you really are that concerned about science at this very early stage, call Mr Nicholls for a chat. He is Head of Science and a huge enthusiast: he recently completed a Masters thesis on Girls and Science Education.

Sorry All... I didn't realize there had been replies since I last checked the thread. I am the OP. Thanks all for the responses.
I will check the schools open days as well. Thanks everyone for your valuable advises.
DG, you know me very well actually :D

I live in Hampshire; the land of no grammar schools. I will have to move regardless as my other options are not looking very good. I have looked into other issues related to moving and schools science was last in my list.

Non-such claims to be a science specialist. Any one has anything to say please???

Go to DAO Information evening tonight. 6.30pm to 9pm. The Head of KS3 will be there, he is also a Science teacher. Ask to speak to him. He will tell you anything you want to know about how well a girl can do at Science at DAO. My dd's do well in Science and will do Triple Science but they are History and English geeks like me. If they wanted to do Science I have absolutely no doubt at all they would get first rate teaching. Every single girl we know from our local primaries who has gone to DAO and done Science A levels and wanted to do Science or Medicine at University has gone to Cambridge. If my dd's wanted to do Science A levels there is no better place for them. DG

SummersLazy are there really no good schools in Hampshire? I struggle to believe that. My DS goes to Latymer and all children are expected to do triple science at GCSE. However we have friends who go to non grammar schools which are excellent and really extend the best pupils. Grammar schools take the top performing pupils at KS2 and as such get good results. Comps can do really well with a much more diverse population. As has already been said don't put all your eggs in one basket as it all depends on performance on the day. I would have a serious look at the schools in your area as they might be preforming just as well as the grammars with children making excellent progress. Remember also that children change as they get older and what might be a strength at 11 may not be at 17/18.
