Fully or partially selective?

What are the pros and cons? What made you choose one over another? Thank you as every opinion counts and helps a confused mind.:)

Sibling policy was a huge plus. Coed too.

Eta: forgot to say we chose a partially selective school over a grammar school.

A propos Daogroupie's post on another thread, DAO giving priority to sibs of pupils no longer at the school must be a boon to those with wide family spacing / stepfamilies. Is this criterion common in Herts? I must say I am not sure how a state school justifies it?

How about other aspects such as social, academics or general happinness of the child?
