School choice positioning question

Post by scooter69 »

Hello everyone,

I wonder if anyone can answer this question?

Are school places at oversubscribed schools generally filled from 1st place choices?

For example:

A candidate has a slim chance of getting into SCHOOL-A (put as 1st Choice) on music/11plus test results, but a stronger chance of getting into SCHOOL-B (put as 2nd choice) on test results and distance.

If they are unsuccessful with getting a place at SCHOOL-A will they now have a lower chance of getting a place at SCHOOL-B because it was their 2nd choice, and SCHOOL-B is now potentially full with 1st choice applicants?

Any opinions/ advice also gratefully taken on board.

Thanks

Where a school is placed on the CAF makes no difference to the likelihood of getting a place.

If someone who placed a school third is, say, closer to a school (or higher scoring or whatever the admissions criteria are) than those putting it first or second, then if they don't get their first or second choice, they will actually rank higher than those who place it higher.

The schools do not know where they are placed.

Beware the head teacher who tells you otherwise

Hope that makes sense.

Thank you Tinkers, that's made me feel a bit better.

I didn't want to scupper a chance of getting our perfectly good number two choice school by taking a shot at slim chance number one.
