My friends Ds who is in year 11 is looking at possibly moving to WBG for A Levels but she was shocked to learn they are offering 65 places. Does this mean that 1/3 of year 11 will not be staying on?

They commit to offering 65 external places. They offer internal candidates a place if they want and qualify for them. Not sure if they have an upper limit on places, but a third of students doing something different does not surprise me. My DS is not there yet but experiences with my DD in WGGS has seen roughly a third leave to take courses elsewhere. Some have been more specialist such as drama or music whereas some don't make the grade and have to leave.

I wonder what they do if more than the expected number get the grades required and decide to stay? Do they just cater for a larger Year 12?

I think they would have to as the 65 is a commitment as is the internal application level of 6 grade B's. Would give them a problem for sure but most classes are small so I am sure they could cope

DAO is the same. Last year 38 of the 200 in the year left, don't know what the figure is for this year yet.

Some don't get in and some go to do more practical courses such as Drama and Music and Dance. DG

Surely quite a few choose to leave just because they fancy a change? Especially true of those currently at single gender schools

Yes they sure do, my DD was one considering that but ultimately decided to remain there.
