Of course there are good Upper schools in Bucks but where you have a borderline child or one who is suited to a Grammar, but for some reason doesn't quite make the grade on the day, I would still feel happier if that child attended a good Comp.

I personally believe that such children benefit from the ' upward pull'
created by the more able students and that it can be a big disadvantage for the more able child in an Upper if the top 30% of ability is creamed off elsewhere. The intake is, therefore, skewed to a lower ability probably resulting in different priorities and influencing the type of courses on offer etc..

Age 10 is such a young age to test and make judgement - that doesn't exist with the Comps.-
