Reason for preference on CAF

There is a section to fill in your reasons for preference for a school on the CAF. We are putting Watford Girls first.

Is it necessary to fill this in and does it affect your application?

The short answer is no, and no.

It's there for people to flag anything really unusual, such as an EHCP that names the school, just so it doesn't get missed. Otherwise nothing you write in the box will be taken into account.

They don't have that section on the Herts CAF?

I've not seen the Herts form - but I've added what the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, Section 86, says to the link further above:

Parental preferences
86. — (1) A local education authority shall make arrangements for enabling the parent of a child in the area of the authority -
(a) to express a preference as to the school at which he wishes education to be provided for his child in the exercise of the authority’s functions, and
(b) to give reasons for his preference.
