Newbie here and need advice please

Post by emsys »

Hi

I’m new to this and find it all a bit overwhelming. My son is in year 4 and I want to find a tutor to get him ready for the 11plus. I’ve been recommended Hatch End in Bushey by a few people and also Susan Dauchery. I think I’ll give SD a miss but I’m tempted with Hatch End. Does anyone have any experience with Hatch End? I’m also wondering if one to one tutoring would be best. Like I said, it’s overwhelming and I don’t know which way to go for the best. Any advice? Tutor recommendations? Watford boys is our nearest school as we are in Nascot Wood, Watford.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated. :D

We try to keep the forum as safe as possible - we don't allow tutors or tutoring organisations (other than school/PTA and non-commercial organisations) to be openly recommended, because it attracts posts with fake recommendations ('dodgy' advertising solely designed to solicit business on the internet).
It is also not unknown for unscrupulous competitors to 'plant' negative posts, seeking to denigrate the opposition!

Genuine recommendations from forum members by PM only (private message) are permitted - but be aware of the possibility that someone who appears to be a 'helpful parent' offering advice may not be all they seem! There could be an ulterior motive.

Always treat recommendations from unknown persons with great caution.
However, we have many long standing members - check carefully the date of joining and number of posts) - who make a very valuable contribution to the forum. If you receive a private recommendation from one of them, it could be worth considering.

Please let us know if you think anyone is abusing the system by soliciting for business or 'spamming'.
It's easy to report a possible problem - just click on the red exclamation mark that appears with every post and PM: Image

There is (or at least used to be) a company doing tuition sessions on site at your local junior school. They offer 11 plus preperation starting from year 3. Sessions are held between 9am - 1pm during the weekend.

There is also a company offering on site 11 plus tution for children in yr 4 & 5 at another junior school local to you. You won't be able to do the sessions at that school as they are only offered to children who attend that school (offered as an after school club). However, they have a tution centre in Bushey.

Send me a pm if you would like the details for these two companies.
