As the DAO exam has always been the first exam of Y6 many students have used it as a mock for SW Herts, HBS, QE and the private schools in November, December and January.

So a percentage of those taking the DAO test have no intention of going to the school but some of them will do well enough to be ranked in the top 65.

So they either do not apply for the school with their rank or they do apply and then turn it down for a private school such as HABS or NLCS.

So those places go back into the pot and are reallocated to those who have applied from lower ranks.

This year the ranks reached 127.

The ranks have always gone beyond 100 on allocation day, March 1st.

This year the ranks reached 110 on March 1st and gradually dropped further to 127.

It is now three years since the ranks have reached the 130s but those who are ranked 66 to 100 can assume they will get an offer on allocation day if they rank the school first.

Those ranked 100 to high 120s certainly have a good chance but are dependent on others turning their places down. DG

DG... this makes no sense...

"...This year the ranks reached 110 on March 1st and gradually dropped further to 110..."
