Re: WGGS - advise
As you will be able to see by reading the admissions criteria on their website, there are no non catchment places at Watford Girls.
It is a catchment only school. DG

The admissions policy from there website is here.
As you can see it confirms the point above. In particular note point 2.2 which states that any unallocated specialist places (which there won’t be anyway) will be treated as community places.

I'm not sure what your are confused about? Basically it means that in the unlikely event that they do not fill all their specialist (selective) places, they will just offer more community places (ie in area DC). They are a catchment school, and this point reinforces it.

It may be a 'catchment school', but it is also a state comprehensive and as such, is bound by the Admissions Code to admit all applicants if it is not oversubscribed. Admittedly, not many schools (at least, not many 'good' ones) in densely populated areas are often undersubscribed, but should it be, the rule applies. In that instance, the school would not be able to turn down an applicant naming the school on their CAF on the grounds that they do not live in catchment.
The Admissions Code also states that only designated grammar schools are allowed not to fill places if they run out of qualified applicants, which is why surplus selective places at the Watford partially selective schools have to be reallocated to an alternative category.

Re: WGGS - advise
Indeed. But as this school is always hugely oversubscribed for the purpose of providing a clear answer to the OP's question the answer is no, there is no out of catchment criteria, unless they cannot fill the school from in area, which they always can.
