We started in year 5 and mainly used Bond books and DS did very well in all three Kent tests. If we had started any earlier I am sure he would have burnt out.

My only concern would be for parents whose children are being educated in the state sector, as the private primaries are often tutoring children "in school" from year 4 for the 11plus...

From the figures I posted yesterday they are the real competition for those children in the state sector who are "in area" (ie West Kent) and "in county" for the superselective places...

Judd + Skinners
West kent schools.........102....42%
Out of area.....................23......9%
Out of county.................42.....17%
Private - in county..........71.....29%
Private - out of county......6.......2%
Total............................244....100%

Total out of area and out of county added together (state & private) = 29% of total (ie of 244)
Total private added together = 32% of total (ie of 244)

My son is a state primary school that doesn't encourage the 11 + and we were fine starting in Year 5.

Hi

We started in the Summer term of year 5, did a little over the summer holidays too. My DD was classed as a borderline child and I did not want to push her too hard to pass a test and then watch her struggle for years. We decided to let whatever be, safe in the knowledge that if she passed then GS was where she was meant to be. DD passed and we are now at the point of choosing a GS for her.

You know your own children so do whatever you feel is right for them in terms of character etc. I know my DD is a girl who will always strive to please wherever she went. x
