11 Plus Exams Forum

I am not out for an argument but would like a bit more information.

There are a couple of posters on the Kent forum that have been what I would classify as rather negative.

Can I ask if the opinions they give is deemed from personal experience, hearsay or from a professional perspective.

I appreciate that not everybody sees things in the same light, however this forum exists to help parent's going through the 11+ process and choosing schools. I feel that if people are going to comment on a subject, either positively or negatively, then they should at least state how they have come by that information.

This is after all an anonymous forum, and I'm sure more often than not, you can give information without identifying yourself.

As a teacher at a GS and a mum of a year 6 boy who didn't sit the 11plus as he is not able enough in the first place and also a mother to a severely disabled child who is at special school and has a mental age of a toddler, I would have to say that there are many many posters on here who need to get some perspective on the 11plus. I know my comments may make some annoyed, unsure of what to say to me etc etc but sometimes some of the intensity of the posts I read make me laugh out loud. All GS's are excellent schools for Gods sake. Most teachers regardless of position within the system (in High schools, comps or GSs or indies actually) want the best for the kids they are teaching. Of course I understand how parents are feeling with regard to their kids education but sometimes its all a bit...

I do agree with you, But i guess it easy to get caught up in the moment
I feel i have experienced most areas of the school journey. Eldest went to comp, next went to Judd, have one at TWGSB and one poor child who has yet to know whats hit him

However, i am aware GS is not necessary the best/right place for every child. It depends on the child, school and parents.
My son who went to Judd went to Uni , yes, and so did his brother who went to comp!!

I guess i just worry for kids who are tutored for years, get their place then cant keep it up just because their folks 'think' its the best place.

I also have seen boys travel for hours to and fro from school dead on their feet and not being about to socialise because of having to get home. That has made me sad in the past.

Seriously, though I agree with what you have both said.

11+ and GS selection is a very emotional time and people come on here for support, so we should not be criticising anyone for what they choose to do.

Having just read the thread I think you are referring to, I have come to the conclusion that there are a few( thankfully in the minority) who simply want to cause trouble. Healthy debate is great for all. Personal insults and sarcastic spiteful comments are not! To the above mentioned ,Lets try and keep it respectful and mature.
