Can anyone please advise me what the procedure is for waiting lists. I understand that the cut off date for putting your name on a school list is 26/3 but then what happens ? Do the school just work their way down their list depending on score and distance and then phone or write to you.

What about those who never originally put the school on their preferences, if they scored a higher mark do they jump over you ?

realistically when do we expect to hear - and / or give up !

I keep hearing stories about this dragging into May ..... thanx

The waiting list is ran in accordance with the oversubscription criteria, so if that is score then you may be 2nd on the list now but then if other people join the list with a higher score, they would jump above you on the list.

I don't know much about it, but theoretically in can ran well over May, as children might get schools after going to appeal and so decline they place at the school they were offered, thus freeing up a place.

I would say it depends on where you are on the list.

You can go on waiting lists for schools that were not on your CAF, but only after a certain date - see the admissions booklet for Kent. So up to a certain date you have a higher chance of getting in off the list if you put the school on your CAF, but after that everyone is equal but ordered according to the admissions criteria as the others have said.

The only way to jump out of the order prioritised by the admissions criteria is to appeal.

A friend of mine didn't have their SUCCESSFUL appeal until June last year.
