As I said KCC at Maidstone did let parents view the papers. Ring and ask them that you need to see your DC's papers becuase you need to prepare your appeal.

One way is to...
select and copy the 'http://www......' from the top of the page that you want to link to.... and then paste into your reply.

Thanks all for your efforts. Nope DS is decidedly average and nowhere near ability for Judd!
At home we did very limited practice to familiarise with testing, and for fear of being called a terrible parent I don't believe in tutoring....
Timings for the papers we used were a set time overall. Think I probably didn't set it up correctly, so was entirely my fault for not preparing him. In practice he always was limited as per the time on the paper and generally finished all questions. Is so hard as we encouraged him to do easy ones first and then go back to any he didn't know but he panicked and just went through one by one!
On a more positive note he scored 123 in an entrance test for another school, so if the appeal panel could possibly accept the average that would be enough for a pass (previous score 117).
