Re: child crying during 11 plus today
I believe some local authorities, including KCC, allow you to resit the test within a certain time period as long as you haven't actually started the papers - but you're left high and dry if you've already sat down. I don't know for sure and hopefully someone else will come along to confirm, but it's very unfortunate.

That is correct. The test can be taken late if the child is "signed off" sick. But once they have seen the paper that is it. They will, however, be able to pursue a GS place through the appeal process. If the scores in the other papers are good, and this is backed up by other good academic evidence, all is not lost.committed wrote:I believe some local authorities, including KCC, allow you to resit the test within a certain time period as long as you haven't actually started the papers - but you're left high and dry if you've already sat down. Re: child crying during 11 plus today
lurker, can I just add that 2 years ago when DD was going through the 11+ (and subsequent appeal) we had a massive falling out with the HT, as a result of which it came to light that she had routinely ignored a number of rules and regulations, and even laws, which should have applied to DD (she is covered by the DDA).
When we started to insist things were done properly, the relationship broke down completely, she blanked us and even used the leavers assembly to stand up and criticise our behaviour This too was a school we had been completely happy with for several years, HT just didn’t like anyone questioning her.
I can tell you quite honestly that the only regret we have – and I mean the ONLY regret – was that we didn’t try to stick up for our DD earlier. Please don’t be put off making a fuss, we gave our HT the benefit of the doubt for far too long. Good luck.

How dreadful for you - the leavers assembly is meant to be a time of celebration for all the children and a proud moment for the parents - instead your HT behaved like a child -

Thanks Rob, I have been very touched by the support here, given that I probably come accross as some neurotic pushy parent!
I know that there are more important things going on in the world and I have a dc who didn't pass a couple of years ago, but it's an issue about fairness and those with authority using their power correctly.
Your situation sounded awful Rob, how spiteful to do that at a leaver assembly.
Did you ever get things resolved? It is a form of bullying really, when you are treated differently for asking questions.
I have bottled out of meeting with HT- things have gone so wrong now that I can't face it. I have been very impressed with KCC though, they went above and beyond what they had to, especially at such a busy time.
I hope your dd is alright now Rob and I do feel better knowing that you went through a similar thing( though sorry too).

Not at all! You are faced with a horrible situation and are doing only what any other caring parent would have done. No need to apologise for fighting in your DC's corner. We on the forum understand and will give all the support you need. Good luck.
