Re: Scores for Judd - anyone know?
Hi Pheasant Chick - Having been through the process last year, I have absolutely no doubt that your son will get in to Judd with that score, bearing in mind it was only 1 point short. When you so want a place at a certain school, it seems incomprehensible that people will turn down places at your desired school, but people have many different reasons for applying to the grammars, super selectives etc, and some have it as a back - up plan, in case their DC's don't get the required mark in the Common Entrance, or other selective tests. Where were you offered? All the Best and Keep Positive!! BP.

Hi, BP here again - further to previous post, I didn't mean The Common Entrance, as they take that at 13 - but there are lots of other factors involved, which often lead to places being turned down, so there is always movement on the waiting lists after Allocation Day. Good Luck!

Re: Scores for Judd - anyone know?
We are on the waiting list and I am going to appeal, but don't feel very hopeful of obtaining a place.
Many thanks
Many thanks

Hi Brenda Jean. Below is the update from the Judd site. I think going on the waiting list (as you've done) and lodging a simple intent of appeal gives you space to see how the waiting list moves. The appeals section is great. Best of luck. C
Year 7 Admissions September 2011
Update 3 March 2011
All applicants should now have received a letter (hard copy) from their own Local Authority informing them of their secondary school allocation for September 2011. The Judd School will be sending welcome letters on Friday 4 March (hopefully arriving Saturday) to the 125 students allocated to us (we are not permitted to send these prior to this). We would ask for a speedy response to this letter either confirming acceptance of the place or rejection – please do ring the school should you need advice on this. Your Local Authority should also be informed of your decision.
The cut-off score this year was 417, with all students on 417 offered a place. We had anticipated a lower cut-off this year as far fewer students had passed (there is a general demographic dip); however when the scores came through to us in January it was clear that far more than usual had achieved very high scores.
If you named The Judd School as a preference, but have not received an offer and still want one, then there are two courses of action open to you:
Join The Waiting List
In recent years around 20 places have been offered through the Waiting List. The list comprises all those who opt to join it and is rank-ordered in the same way as our original list. To join the waiting list you must inform your Local Authority (new regulations this year) as they hold the official list – but please inform us as well. Information on how to do this is provided by the Local Authority. Waiting List offers will be made by the Local Authority from 4 April.
If there were to be 20 offers from the Waiting List then we would expect that to cover all students on 416 and above, judging from the pattern of previous years – but there are no certainties in this. Those on 415 or just below should certainly not give up hope either – we simply do not know how many students will decline the places they have been offered.
Appeal
If you consider that there are grounds for an appeal then it is possible to lodge an appeal with the Governing Body of The Judd School (not your Local Authority). Again information on how to do this should be provided by your Local Authority. The email address to lodge an Appeal at Judd is clerk.gov@judd.kent.sch.uk. At this stage it is only notice of an appeal and you do not need to make a case. I strongly recommend that anyone considering an appeal discusses their intention with their child’s current Headteacher. Appeals will be heard in May 2011.
