Are CAT Tests a good indicator for 11+?

Hi
I just had my daughter's year 5 CAT test results and wondered if anyone knew how they compare to 11+ results.

She got 126 verbal, 116 non verbal, 118 Maths. Is that good or should I be worrying. We are in a comprehensive area so it will not be enough to pass, she is going to need at least 411.

Any advice would be most welcome :D

There are alot of posts regarding CATS and the 11 plus on thi forum - i notice you are in kent but need your dc to score high because of being in a comprehensive area. If you just needed a pass in the kent test i would say the CATS are very promicing. But you need your dc to score highly so in this case the verbal CATS is good but the other two borderline - But you dont know untill you try and CATS are not always reliable - read this

What do you think yourself? Is your child doing well at school etc?

That's what I thought.
I looked at the link you sent and I'm not sure that the CAT's are a great indicator of her level anyway. She is a level 4a for english, predicted to be level 5 by the summer, and 4b for Maths.

Perhaps we just need to do more papers to get used to the format. :?

Thanks for your reply, it's all completely new to me and speaking to any of the other parents at school tends to be stressful. They seem to consider that my daughter will breeze through, but I think that is just putting unfair pressure on her, especially as her results don't entirely go along with that.

I would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks

I don't think the CATs are supposed to reflect the NC level DC is presently at. They are more an indicator of where she stands nationally. CATs are also used as indicators of final KS2 results. http://www.gl-assessment.co.uk/educatio ... cators.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I thought that the CAT tests are on a different scale from the 11 plus?
At our school children getting 115-10 in the May CAT tests went on to get over 400 in the actual 11 plus. If you look on the NFER website those scores would put your daughter in the top 10 % which should see her through!
