Would you bother with Bond 10-11 books or not?

Post by mystery »

Those of you who have done the Kent test before, would you bother with Bond 10-11 papers?

My rough plan for the very long term is to do Bond 8-9, Bond 9-10, and then the GL assessment papers in maths, VR and NVR.

Would I miss out on anything by skipping out Bond 10-11?

I found quite a big difference between 9/10 and 10/11 actually and would probably spend more time on the 10/11 and less on the others. There are only so many GL papers, and I found the 10/11 were a similar level.

yes. I would definitely do 10 - 11 VR and NVR in the beginning two terms of Year 5. We didn't do Maths as I didn't like the Bond books for this. I think we also did a few of the 11- 12 Bond NVR and VR tests too. I would leave the GL assessment papers until about May of Year 5.

I found the Letts books quite good too..seemed a bit harder then Bond and phrased differently which helps too. I wish I'd used those Schofield books too..bought one the week before for DS which was a bit late. Good job I have DD to go.

Ah thanks - which Schofield and Simms books and which Letts books Scarlett- there are tons of different series and titles. Twinkle, what did you like instead of Bond for maths?

My view was that Maths is covered in school and there was no real need to worry about it. I was assured that all the Maths in the 11+ in Kent should be covered by the end of Year 5. The only Maths we did was the GL Assessment papers.

Do your children not do Schofield and Sims Mental Maths books at school?

It was the mental maths one ...and the Letts 11 Plus books . I found even if they have covered the topics at school , it was the way they were phrased which seemed to throw my children ( and me ). It is quite a knack to work out what the question is asking you and then they throw in sneaky trick ones too.

With DS2 we spent practically all our time on the maths, partly due to hideous gaps but also because he is the sort of child who gets easily confused and it did take a while for him to get to grips with the long word problem types.

Agree with previous posters. We went straight to 10-11 for NVR and did 9-10 then 10-11 for maths and VR. We didn't do any GL papers until the summer holidays and then only managed 2 or 3 VR and NVR. We didn't do any maths GL papers.
