Tgs 2014 gcse results

Post by mystery »

These are now on the dfe performance tables. Why is their average gcse grade in the 'compare similar schools" section only a B+?

Did they fall foul of the govt. deciding not to count some iGCSEs maybe?

Perhaps they allow all to enter rather than 'culling' anyone unlikely to get a high grade?

Tonbridge grammar school for girls - the website does have a news flash about igcse maths results in 2014. They are superselective so would expect higher results than that b+ average. Could it be the igcse - I thought it was accepted into the dfe performance tables now - is it not?

Not accepted this year. They were not considered of the same level of difficulty than GCSEs. That's why many independent schools didn't make it to the top of the league tables.

Why are independent schools and superselectives using igcse maths if it is easier?

Igcse are in there. They won't be included from 2017 or something.

In the main performance table the average gcse grade is A*- . In the compare with similar schools it is B+ But it says capped 8 in brackets. What does this mean and why is it resulting in such a big difference? It makes the comparison against similar schools look mediocre.

This is based on the total point scores for the best 8 qualifications taken by a pupil and divided by 8.

IGCSE maths covers far more maths than GCSE - I'm pretty certain it contains calculus for example. Children I know who have taken it have found they have already covered the first part of AS maths.

Thank you - why do some articles say it is easier I wonder?

I am still confused about why the togs capped 8 average grade is so different from the other one.
