Living just in E Sussex, son achieved score 373 in 11+
Having applied to 3 grammars he has received NO allocation in Kent or E Sussex!! We have already returned Reallocation form naming same 3 schools.
Does he get priority over children with a place already allocated?
Head is backing our appeal and will attend with us.
Does this sound like he will get a place on anyone's knowledge or experience?

If you don't live in Kent why didn't you put at least one East Sussex school down? You may get a place - TWGSB usually has a few spaces after all the shuffling aroundsp wrote:Living just in E Sussex, son achieved score 373 in 11+

Didn't feel local schools in Sussex were appropriate for our child so put all 3 grammar schools. He was expected to achieve a much better score but oh well...
We have applied for relocation and have lodged appeals with all 3. Feel we've nothing to lose as he does not have a school place any where at the moment!!

Did he pass? The combined score is sufficient but did he get 119 or more on two papers and at least 114 on the third? This is what we were told by our Kent Primary was the minimum pass requirement this year before appeal.
You will just have to go through every available procedure that Kent and East Sussex have to get the school that you want, or at least the one that you are least unhappy with at this stage. And there could be some luck in future years or part way through a year if you are unlucky for September.
Speak to the authority admissions sections for advice - and more than once as sometimes you get someone really helpful and experienced and other times you don't so their advice can very in usefulness.
Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys does take the lowest scores in the Tonbridge/Tunbridge Wells area, and living in Groombridge must be your closest, so that must be the one to focus your greatest effort on. Hope you are lucky. I cannot see that there would be any point trying to get into Skinners or Judd, and it's going to be pretty difficult getting into Bennet Memorial (non-selective church school) as you did not name them in the first place and they tend to fill up with v. active church members who did name them first place.
But what a risky game you played!!! Even living in Kent, and with a stepson who in the end got 130,140,140 we would never have dreamed of putting down three grammar schools only .......... unless of course you had a fee paying option up your sleeve.
You are obviously confident in your son's abilities. His ability and your confidence in him should stand him in good stead wherever he goes, and there are lots of ways of making up for any academic lack your local comp may have as long as your son is happy there in other ways. Unless the quality of teaching is truly dreadful in all subjects, my view is that children who are going to do well will usually do so wherever they go, with parental support. Have you studied the OFSTED reports carefully of your local schools that you have ruled out of court? They may reveal some hidden qualities that will cheer you up.

Thanks for your message- I have been in touch with Kent admissions a few times already. In my experience they have been really helpful and actually encouraged us to go for reallocation AND appeal at all 3 of our choices. We have done that and are currently adding information to our original appeals so that we will be ready when hearings are arranged. Our headteacher has been helpful and is confident on previous experience. She will actually come to hearings with us which should hold us in good stead.

Well good luck with it. Be interesting to hear the final outcome of the reallocation, appeal etc. What were the various avenues suggested by Kent admissions? Did you have to put the same three grammars on the reallocation form (i.e. can you only do this procedure for schools that you put on the CAF originally?). The thing that crossed my mind was that it is really only TWGSB you are likely to have a chance with if the other two are Skinners and Judd as 11+ score is no way high enough. So unless you have very strong grounds at appeal for showing why your son massively underperformed on the day two of the schools are a waste of space on the form.
Are you pursuing East Sussex at the same time for a fallback option? They have a duty to place you somewhere, but I presume the longer you leave it with them the more likely you are to be presented with the least favourable option, and there is no guarantee of success in Kent.
Has TWGSB explained to you why your son did not get in first time round with that score? It may be illuminating to hear their explanation, and useful to make the contact.
