Just filling in CAF form. When you select a school it asks for a reason for preference. Should we fill this in and if so, what should we write. I am worried to write anything that may jeopardize our place.
Unless it is something directly related to and oversubscription criterion, it has on bearing on your application per se. And if it is something pertinent to an oversubscription criterion, the form should ask formally for this information, for example Pupil / Services Premium? Sibling link? etc.
If you think you might want to appea dol a place at the school, then detailing, for example, particular reasons for wanting a school as close as possible to your home (possibly medical issues not warranting a 'plan' but affecting ability to walk long distances, where the school doesn't have a 'medical' criterion) at this stage would be better than suddenly producing this reason at your appeal. Appeal panels for anything other than an Infant Class Size refusal can consider reasons other than those strictly fitting into 'criteria' boxes. This would only help where your CAF forms part of the document pack, of course - although you yourself could submit a screen print / copy of a confirmation email showing what you put, of course.
